Proper
Interpretation of laboratory results can aid in making decisions regarding the
potability and palatability of your drinking water and help you make informed
decisions about treatment of your water. A brief description of common
contaminants can be found on this page with the Primary Maximum Contaminant
Levels ( PMCL's). A PMCL is the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed
in drinking water as defined by the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
A Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (SMCL) is set for contaminants that may
cause cosmetic or aesthetic effects but is not generally considered a threat to
public health. The units are expressed in milligrams per liter (mg/l) unless
otherwise noted.
